Moths at the American Museum with Bath Nats, 31 August 2026

There was a good turnout of Nats members and public to see moths attracted by our
125W mercury vapour light traps. As rain and strong winds were forecast overnight, the two traps were placed under cover of the entrance pagoda and kitchen veranda respectively. Although these factors reduced the number of moths recorded, there were a few interesting species.

Of particular note: Dewick’s Plusia, Delicate, Small Emerald and the micro Evergestis limbata.

Migrant moths included several Rush Veneers and Rusty-dot Pearls. Also a result of the extraordinary weather this year, several Clouded Yellow butterflies were seen later in the morning around the gardens of Claverton Manor. All the moths were released in the gardens after the event.
