Stoney Littleton Long Barrow
Leaders: Catherine Turner and Alvan White
Start: 10:00
Finish: 13:00 (approx.)
Meet: Wellow, Station Rd car park, Explorer 142 (ST 7381 5804), what3words: ///bulky.snows.policy (we will then car share to Stoney Littleton Long Barrow car park)
Focus: General wildlife including invertebrates, potentially including birds of prey
Description: We will walk from the Long Barrow car park up to the Long Barrow, looking out for local bird life. The area is frequented by Red Kite and Kestrels, and there are Kingfishers by the stream. Catherine will be looking for invertebrates, particularly Arachnids – there should be some inside the Barrow.
This will involve some steep uphill walking and at least two stiles. The ground may be very muddy underfoot if there has been rain, and the area around the Barrow is very exposed to all the elements, so appropriate clothing is advised.
Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their 2025 Spring/Summer newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
