Focus: Fungi and other Autumn wildlife
Description: A slow walk looking at fungi in particular, but also the other wildlife of this varied plantation. The underlying geology of Stockhill Plantation is Old Red Sandstone, so soils are acidic; it is also the former site of centuries of lead-mining. We should see a good range of fungi. The main forest rides are broad with a good surface and wide verges; away from paths the ground is uneven (“gruffy”) due to former mining and can be muddy. Stout boots or wellingtons are recommended and please bring a packed lunch and hand sanitiser.
