White Sheet Hill, Wiltshire
Leader: Phillip Delve
Start: 10:00
Finish: 13:00
Meet: White Sheet Lane car park OS EXP 142 (ST 798 350) what3words:///diamonds.titles.delight
Directions: Take B3092 south of Maiden Bradley for approx. 3 miles, then turn left onto White Sheet Lane. This turning is immediately beyond and next to an old pub building. The car park is one kilometre up this single-track lane. If you miss the B3092 turning, in one mile you reach Stourhead National Trust entrance and need to turn back.
Focus: Chalk hillside flora and fauna. We will specifically be looking for the Glanville Fritillary butterflies known from this site.
Description: Butterflies inhabit the rough ground and the steep lower slopes of this scrubby, chalk hillside. Walking poles and supportive walking boots are advised. The steep and rough ground here is not for everyone and participation at your own risk. Please bring packed lunch. The nearest toilets are a 15 minute drive away at Stourhead National Trust.
Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their Spring/Summer 2026 newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
