Nineteen people gathered on mid-summer’s day for the moth trap opening at Elm Farm, Burnett. It was a fine morning. In spite of a temperature dip overnight we still had plenty of moths in the Elm Farm trap.

About 150 macro moths were recorded, of 35 species. The most common were 40 Large Yellow Underwing followed by 20 Heart and Dart. Notable were the Sharp-angled Peacock and Pinion-streaked Snout.

About 50 micro moths were recorded, of 21 species. The most prolific were Chrysoteuchia culmella of which there were 31.
One of our members had brought along two traps from her home garden, so there were enough moths to keep people occupied for the morning.
