Sand Bay, Kewstoke

September 4 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

Leader: Helena Crouch
Bookings: Helena Crouch
Start: 10:30
Finish: approx. 15:00
Meeting place: Sand Bay car park and bus terminus Explorer 153 / Landranger 182 (ST 332 646) what3words: brew.bedroom.pink Parking costs £2.50 for the day (cash or MiPermit)
Focus: Strandline plants and dunes (am), saltmarsh and coastal rocks (pm)
Description: We will explore the developing dune system looking particularly at the plants that help form the dunes and the strandline vegetation which develops at the top of the beach, changing each year. There will be a break for lunch near the car park (and toilets!) optionally followed by a visit to the saltmarsh and rocks at the base of Sand Point to see plants of other coastal habitats. Bring a picnic lunch and plenty to drink. Overall distance about 6km, taken slowly, but there is the option to leave after lunch (or any time). It is an exposed site so please dress accordingly and carry waterproofs, sun cream and a hat. We could possibly finish at the tea shop, if open!

Please book with the Leader in advance. Members can find contact details in their Spring/Summer 2024 newsletter. This has several benefits for all meetings: the Leader is aware who is coming and can deal with any queries before the meeting (such as car-sharing, if required); in the unlikely event that arrangements need to change or the meeting has to be cancelled, attendees can all be contacted promptly and easily.
If you have booked but then are unable to attend, please contact the leader as soon as possible. The leader can then contact other members if there is a waiting list.
