Focus: Tree trunks as micro-habitats
Description: We will examine a range of trees in the park to see which are most suitable for epiphytes (usually bryophytes and lichens, with the occasional fern). Tree trunks provide suitable habitats for a wide range of species, which we will try to identify. Amongst the mosses and liverworts there are often a variety of small invertebrates: springtails, false-scorpions, woodlice, snails and so on, plus Lichens are often attacked by parasitic fungi and even parasitic lichens.
